Ps. 32:7 “Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance.”

Think about that verse. Think of how God uses music to soothe our soul when it seems like trouble is everywhere we turn. The music begins to play, and for a moment, our troubles seem to disappear as we listen to the words or reminisce about what we were doing at the time we first heard that song. Then we smile, and for a moment or maybe longer, we are encompassed with deliverance.

Born and raised in Imlay City, Michigan, I now live in Lapeer. My beautiful wife, Cheryl, and I have 3 handsome sons, Tyler, Jordan, and Seth. How blessed I am to have this family, but more importantly, knowing that each one has come to accept Jesus Christ as their personal Savior.

We all serve at North Goodland Baptist Church in Imlay City, Michigan. Cheryl is a volunteer at Flint Crisis Pregnancy Services. She has taught Sunday school, “starred” in Christmas Musicales (hasn’t broken a leg yet - thank the Lord), works with youth, and is involved in many of the ladies ministries. She has the gift of writing and counseling young girls and women (and putting up with me). As for me, I own T.D. Herbert Insurance agency, dabble in politics, served as Deacon many times, am a vocalist, youth director, Sunday School teacher, and am involved with jail ministry. Most enjoyable of all, though, is that God has allowed me to serve Him with my voice, from singing to speaking. I thank God for creating music and how it can minister to the soul.

Thankfully, I was raised in a Christian home. I accepted Christ as my Savior at the age of 6 at Vacation Bible School. I must admit my life has not always reflected Christ. Thankfully God keeps His word. He promised, “I shall never leave thee (me) nor forsake thee (me).” What a kind Friend and loving Father we have as He patiently waits with open arms and a ready forgiveness when we repent and turn back to Him.

My other enjoyments include spending time with the family, camping, hacking at golf, putzing around when I have free time, and coaching sports. I even try coaching the sports teams on TV… if only they’d listen! I enjoy most any sport and, yes, I’m coming slowly around to enjoy watching those guys in cars that go in circles 400 times.

I truly thank God for my family and the support they’ve given me as we look to serve Him together wherever He would have us. My hope and prayer is that through this additional ministry we will continue to see others come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, through the use of His creation- music.

Waiting for that Midnight Cry,
Tim
